“Making the impossible “Possible” for St. Johns Families.”
Purpose
The purpose of the Possibilities Scholarship is to provide financial assistance to St. Johns residents that show an interest in completing their HS diploma, GED, technical trade certificates, and post-secondary educational programs. Our emphasis is on adults of families with small children needing financial assistance to rise above poverty and move closer to economic stability. Adults will utilize the scholarship funds to assist with tuition, uniforms, books, supplies, tools, test/license fees, or transportation.
Awards
The Possibilities Scholarship awards are available in amounts up to $250.00 annually. Awards are for one year only, but recipients may re-apply for a second year. The distribution of the award will be monitored by the Head Start Staff and the Altrusa Scholarship Committee.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be a resident of St. Johns County.
- Applicants must be an adult caring for children and experiencing financial hardship wanting to pursue a GED, Highschool Completion Diploma, technical trade certificate, or post-secondary educational programs.
- Be available to attend a future meeting of the Altrusa Club.
- The Possibilities Scholarship is awarded without regard to race, sex, religion, age, national origin, or sexual orientation. The Possibilities Scholarship Board will not award scholarships to applicants who are not qualified and reserves the right not to award a scholarship each year.
Application Requirements
To be considered for The Possibilities Scholarship, applicants must complete an application and return it to Altrusa International of Saint Augustine. The application must include:
- A completed application form. Only completed application forms will be considered.
- One professional letter of recommendation.
- A one-page statement describing the applicant’s qualifications and educational and career goals.
- Provide proof of income. Examples include the most recent pay stubs, certified letters of employment with wage amount, disability benefits letter, and unemployment documents.
Submission of Letter of Recommendation
The letter of recommendation should be submitted with your application to Early Childhood Services of St. Johns Head Start program in person or via email to Mimi Cooper at mimicooper@verizon.net . The letter should indicate the capacity in which the letter writer knows the applicant, e.g. as a student, employee, or another capacity.
