Altrusa is an international community service organization dedicated to making our communities better through leadership and service. Our membership is a diverse group of women and men in both background and experience. Through Altrusa membership, you have the opportunity to develop leadership skills, serve your community, develop both personal and business networks and make a difference while having fun.
The Altrusa Club of St. Augustine’s service projects are based on the needs in our community. Therefore, some projects are ongoing and others change from time-to-time, there’s something for everyone… from literacy projects to working with children and supporting our veterans.
Altrusa promotes personal development and leadership skills.
Altrusa of St. Augustine is part of District Three, which is comprised of 24 clubs in four states: Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. You do not “join Altrusa,” you “become an Altrusan.”
WE ARE ALWAYS LOOKING FOR ENERGETIC, SERVICE-MINDED PEOPLE TO JOIN ALTRUSA. Please contact Eileen Holden to arrange a no-obligation visit – firstname.lastname@example.org.
ST. AUGUSTINE ALTRUSANS CARE
Durinda Conner and Home Again St. Johns
When there was a call from Altrusa in St. Augustine that there was a need for toiletries and other items for the homeless, our newest member, Durinda Conner took on the challenge. Durinda had just joined Altrusa this year. She shared the challenge with her fellow workers at Watson Realty in St. Augustine, and they began to help collect the needed items. Backpacks, tooth brushes, toothpaste, combs, shampoo, sun block, soap were among the many items. Altrusa St. Augustine’s own members also added many items. In all, 62 backpacks and a huge bin were filled with the numerous items collected.
While the collected items were originally to be for our District 3 Conference, the COVID-19 pandemic crisis forced the cancellation of that event. But once again, Durinda found a worthy cause right here in St. Augustine – Home Again St. Johns. Home Again provides many services for the homeless here in our county and is always looking for donations. The items that Durinda, the staff at Watson’s St. Augustine, and fellow Altrusans fit perfectly into those needed by the group.
In August, Altrusans donated over 400 pairs of socks and underwear to the St Johns County Head Start Program. Altrusan, Vicki Sellner was able to obtain a $250.00 grant from her insurance company for this project. On the left are Christine Croyle, Head Start and Altrusans Art Holden, Vicki Sellner and Eileen Holden.
St. Francis House
Also in August, Altrusans delivered assorted books and magazines and almost 55 pounds of food to St. Francis House. Altrusan Eileen Holden was able to obtain a $25.00 gift card from Costco for this project.
